News of recent Grasmere WI activities and fundraising

Grasmere WI raises money for the Great North Air Ambulance.
This year the Gather Day held in March  2012 raised over £1,000. Thanks to everybody who helped make such a success of the Gather Day.
How do we support the Great North Air Ambulance?
This is done mainly through collections of unwanted clothing, bedding, and other items such as used computer cartridges. Every year we have a special "Gather" day, with  stalls and  a coffee morning , but items are also collected throughout the year.
If you have any items for us, please contact one of the committee. They will give you bags to put your items in, and they can also be given to Ella Footit or Ann Fawthrop, who make ongoing visits to the GNNA collection point in Penrith.
There is a collection point for used cartridges in St Oswald's Church Grasmere.
The GNNA is a charity. It provides vital help for rural communites . If you would like see why Grasmere W I is so determined to raise money for the GNNA you might like to look at the GNAA website.

Grasmere WI also raises money for the Macmillan Nurses, the charity which provides invaluable support to cancer patients and their families. The annual coffee morning for the "World's Biggest Coffee Morning" was held in St Oswalds on Friday 30 September, and the excellent sum of £595 was raised from coffee and biscuits, stalls and a tombola.
At our October meeting, all WI members were thanked for their great support, and and extra thanks went to the kind gentlemen helpers, John Lagoe, Gordon Footit and John Rickman, who helped enormously too.

Grasmere WI is involved the the Grasmere Village Celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Our Christmas Cheese and Wine Party raised £541 which will be used to fund our contribution to the hog roast for the Sunday lunch.
We will be organising the Big Sunday Lunch on 3 June. The Queen said that she would like people to celebrate with a Sunday Lunch, and that's what we're doing! Details will shortly be posted on a new page which will tell you all about Grasmere Village Diamond Jubliee celebrations. This will be an inclusive celebration. All the Village is working together to make this a great weekend for residents and visitors.
